For many adoptees it is a difficult road to discover information about their birth families, ancestry, genetic health and further information many of us take for granted. In the past adoptions have remained a closed matter. Discovering where one comes from only possible through decades-old records or recollections.
Genetic DNA testing has opened new doors where one is able to discover close relatives, cousins, and distant cousins. Through the method of elimination of these kinship matches the adoptee has a better chance of learning where they fit in with their genetic family.
Sometimes discovering an adoptees biological parentage isn’t the important issue in the search for answers. Some search for answers about their genetic health. They need to know which diseases and conditions they are predisposed to or likely to pass on to their own children.
The following resources will help to guide adoptees using genetic genealogy testing to discover information about who they are.
