Who am I?
Hi. I’m Jayden Isaiah Bellamy. I’m 9. I’m not good at writing cursive yet but I’m working on it. My sister Ava says I ask too many questions, but my teacher Miss Foster says that means I’m curious. I like learning about space and dinosaurs and how big the ocean is. I want to be a scientist. Or maybe a game designer. Or maybe both.
I live in a house with my mom, my big sister, and my grandma. I have a bed with rocket ship sheets and a lamp that glows blue at night. Sometimes I get scared of thunder, but not that much anymore.
I like grilled cheese, soccer, comic books, and quiet time with my LEGO sets. I don’t like when people argue or when Grandma forgets who I am. That makes my chest feel weird. But Mama says love is stronger than memory. I believe her.
I think I’m brave. I think I’m kind. And I think I’m just getting started.
How did I get here?
I was born on April 14, 2016. My mom says I was loud from the moment I got here. My first word was “truck.” Ava says it should’ve been “please.” I think she’s funny. We laugh a lot, even if we argue too.
I don’t know my dad. Sometimes I think about him, but I don’t get sad like Ava does. I have my mom and she does everything. She works hard and still makes time to read me bedtime stories, even when she’s tired. She lets me help with Grandma, too. Like finding her glasses or turning on her music when she gets upset. That’s important work.
One time I won a spelling bee. Another time I tripped in front of the whole class. Both times, Ava gave me a popsicle and said, “You’re still a champ.”
I don’t know everything, but I’m learning. I like this journal because it’s just me and the page. I think I’ll write about my days and what I notice. Maybe even about the stars. Mama says we’re made of them.
