Personal Chronicle: July 4, 2025 – July 5, 2026 A gift for reflection. A record of now. A story for what’s next.
✍️ Sam Rahman – “Who am I?”
I’m Sam. I think in patterns and spirals and sometimes in weird cartoon sound effects.
My parents say I was born asking questions—about planets, about dinosaurs, about how microwaves work. I guess I just like understanding stuff. I like things that make sense. But I’m okay with mystery too. Like, I don’t have to know everything—I just want to keep looking.
I love machines. I build robots out of scraps and code little games no one else sees. My brain’s a little noisy sometimes, but Ellie says that’s a superpower. She calls me her “logic twin.” I like that.
I’m Muslim. I’m Bangladeshi American. I’m homeschooled. I’m not sure which of those makes me weirdest to other people, but I’ve decided not to care.
I’m Sam. And I like being Sam.
✍️ Sam Rahman – “How did I get here?”
I was supposed to go to regular school, but it didn’t work for me. Too loud, too fast, too much…everything. I shut down a lot. One teacher told my parents I’d “never catch up.” That made me want to disappear.
But my mom said no. She pulled me out and started homeschooling me even though she had no idea how at first. We figured it out together. My dad built me a little lab in the garage. It smells like soldering and whiteboard markers. It’s my favorite place.
I met Ellie at a science fair. She was doing a project on extinct sea monsters and I asked, “Could they have survived in an alternate climate zone?” She looked at me like I wasn’t weird, just interesting.
That’s how I got here. Books, questions, second chances, and one friend who sees me.
