Cassian Verus writes like he hikes: with curiosity, grit, and a knack for finding the path less taken. In his 20s and already deep into the wilds of South America, Cassian is drawn to places where stories still whisper in the stones — from the cloud forests of Ecuador to the salt flats of Bolivia.
Cassian Verus brings a soulful curiosity and a global heart to Go Cybernaut’s travel desk. Specializing in South American destinations, Cassian’s writing weaves together vibrant culture, local voices, and the powerful rhythms of the land. His playlist, “Sol de Sur,” pulses with folkloric beats, tropical fusion, and modern Latin sounds—perfectly mirroring his personality: athletic, charitable, musical, dependable, gentle, and mindful.
Cassian often collaborates with Nick Jarosz and Ruby Taylor to compare cross-continental cultural moments, and he’s a favorite travel brainstorm partner for Eliza Bloom, whose love of food finds common ground in Cassian’s culinary storytelling. He also shares a creative bond with Vista Byrnes, who helps scout the lesser-known gems of the southern continent.
Whether hiking the Andes, wandering through Amazonian markets, or dancing through a Rio street parade, Cassian captures South America’s pulse with both grace and fire. His writing invites readers not just to visit—but to feel.
He writes for those who crave raw beauty and real connection — readers who’d rather take the long road if it means one perfect view, one unforgettable conversation, or one strange fruit they can’t pronounce. His stories balance adrenaline with anthropology, pairing wild treks and winding roads with cultural depth and human warmth.
Cassian’s voice is shaped by worn boots, cracked journals, and meals shared in three languages. Whether he’s tracing Andean trade routes, exploring Afro-Brazilian traditions, or chasing the sound of distant music in Medellín, he always brings back a tale that sticks to your ribs.
He wears a woven bracelet from a Peruvian market, swears by river swims over hotel showers, and believes maps are for folding — not following.
Cassian is passionate about the natural world and the stories it holds. His personal time is often spent surfing Pacific coastlines, hiking Andean trails, catching a local baseball game, stargazing deep in the countryside, horseback riding through wide-open spaces, photographing wildlife, or documenting the quiet poetry of daily life through his lens.

🎵 10 Artists
Cassian’s music should travel almost as widely as he does:
Mon Laferte · Gustavo Cerati · Jorge Drexler · Natalia Lafourcade · Los Jaivas · Bomba Estéreo · Ana Tijoux · Caetano Veloso · Jorge Ben Jor · Silvio Rodríguez
Music becomes another geography lesson for him. He notices what crosses borders and what remains intensely local.
📺 10 TV Shows
Los 80 · 31 Minutos · Narcos · Street Food: Latin America · Somebody Feed Phil · Long Way Up · The Amazing Race · Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown · Planet Earth · Dark
His viewing reflects the same mixture found in his writing: travel, culture, history, humor, food, landscape and storytelling, with enough fiction to keep his world from turning into permanent homework.
⚽ 10 Sports Teams & Athletes
Santiago Wanderers · Chile national football team · Ecuador national football team · Boca Juniors · River Plate · Colo-Colo · Alexis Sánchez · Arturo Vidal · Lionel Messi · Richard Carapaz
The most emotionally significant club is Santiago Wanderers, tying football directly back to Valparaíso.
Living in Ecuador has also given Cassian a genuine appreciation for cycling, particularly because the landscape makes the physical achievement of Andean riders impossible to ignore.
🎬 10 Movies
The Motorcycle Diaries · A Fantastic Woman · No · Machuca · The Secret in Their Eyes · Wild Tales · Central Station · Roma · The Salt of the Earth · Embrace of the Serpent
Cassian gravitates toward films where place itself seems to participate in the story.
His movie tastes also give him another route into South American history and identity without pretending cinema is a substitute for lived experience.
🧳 10 Destinations Already Visited
Cassian has traveled considerably for his age and profession, but we don’t need him to have already conquered the continent. There should always be unexplored doors.
1. Santiago & Valparaíso, Chile
Home territory, but something he continually rediscovers.
2. San Pedro de Atacama, Chile
Desert landscapes, astronomy and extraordinary scale.
3. Patagonia, Chile & Argentina
A formative journey that strengthened his fascination with landscapes that dictate the terms of travel.
4. Buenos Aires, Argentina
Football, bookstores, architecture, cafés, music and seemingly endless walking.
5. Ushuaia & Tierra del Fuego, Argentina
Including the Southern Fuegian Railway, connecting directly with his Go Cybernaut work.
6. Lima & Cusco, Peru
Food, colonial and pre-Columbian history, urban culture and journeys into the Andes.
7. La Paz & Lake Titicaca, Bolivia
An especially memorable encounter with altitude, landscape and Indigenous cultural continuity.
8. Bogotá & Cartagena, Colombia
Two dramatically different Colombian urban experiences.
9. Rio de Janeiro & São Paulo, Brazil
Important journeys for both his Portuguese development and understanding the enormous cultural diversity within Brazil.
10. Galápagos Islands, Ecuador
One of his most significant nature journeys since settling in Ecuador, reinforcing his interest in conservation and responsible tourism.
And crucially, South America remains unfinished for Cassian. Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, Paraguay, Uruguay, Venezuela and countless places within countries he has already visited remain genuine future possibilities.
🧡 Full About Cassian
Cassian Verus learned early that places rarely tell you their entire story from the viewpoint.
Growing up in Valparaíso, Chile, meant living somewhere geography refused to behave politely. Streets climbed. Stairways became transportation. Hills developed personalities. Murals appeared where blank walls might have been expected. Below everything sat the Pacific, connecting his hometown to places far beyond what he could see.
That may be where his habit of asking what’s around the corner? began.
Today Cassian lives in Quito, Ecuador, where the Andes provide an entirely different relationship with landscape. Between those two cities, one facing the ocean and another surrounded by mountains, Cassian found the coordinates for his life as Go Cybernaut’s South America Travel Writer.
He travels because he likes discovering how places work.
A famous landmark may get him there, but the bus ride, neighborhood bakery, football shirt hanging from a balcony, conversation at a market, unfamiliar word painted on a wall or family recipe somebody insists he taste can become the detail he remembers.
Cassian loves trains, maps, photography, football, record stores, long walks and journeys where the route matters as much as arrival. His notebooks become glorious little disasters while he’s traveling, accumulating ticket stubs, addresses, food recommendations, half-finished observations and reminders whose meaning occasionally mystifies even him.
He is equally comfortable writing about a railway disappearing through Tierra del Fuego, a crowded city neighborhood, an Andean trail or a quiet café where someone explains why their hometown matters.
That last question is particularly important to him.
Cassian doesn’t want Go Cybernaut readers merely to look at South America.
He wants them to encounter its people as contemporaries rather than scenery, its cultures as living rather than frozen, its history as complicated rather than decorative, and its enormous geographic and cultural diversity without pretending one journey can explain an entire continent.
Travel, for Cassian, is therefore less about collecting places than expanding context.
He still loves the breathtaking view.
He just wants to know what’s happening when you turn around.
