Meet Kevin Todd – Outdoors Writer, Nature Interpreter, and Believer in Slow Miles and Open Skies
Kevin Todd doesn’t just write about the outdoors—he writes about being in it. As Outdoors Writer at Go Cybernaut, Kevin brings reflection, detail, and reverence to trails, gear, and the quiet moments in between. His work doesn’t shout—it invites you in.
His belief? That nature isn’t just a destination—it’s a relationship.
Kevin Todd has a way of making the great outdoors feel like home. As Go Cybernaut’s Outdoors Writer, he brings wild trails, hidden waterfalls, and star-streaked skies into sharp, poetic focus for readers who crave the natural world but might not always know how to find it. Whether he’s covering gear for minimalist campers or recounting close encounters on backcountry hikes, Kevin writes with both reverence and joy.
His playlist,Campfire Frequency, pulses with acoustic wanderlust, warm lo-fi rhythms, ambient field recordings, and thoughtful indie melodies—capturing the heart of a guy who finds serenity in nature and meaning in every birdsong or rustling leaf. Music, for him, is something to match the crackle of firelight and the hush between stories shared under the stars.
Personality-wise, Kevin is a mellow mix of easygoing and nerdy, with an insatiable curiosity about flora, fauna, and folklore. He’s sensitive and polite, never the loudest in the room but always tuned into the vibe. A friendly free spirit, he’s the kind of guy who’d bring extra marshmallows just in case someone forgot theirs.
Kevin collaborates often with Maya Green and Lauren Fresh on nature-forward family outings and seasonal garden features, and he’s a favorite among the art team—especially Indigo Rae and Rowan Okafer—for the way he describes natural scenes in painterly detail. He’s also known to trade podcasts and trail snacks with Cairo Bell when the two talk sustainability and off-grid adventures.
Kevin’s origin story?
He grew up hiking state parks and fishing quiet lakes—learning early that nature teaches best when you’re listening. What started as a love for being outside turned into storytelling: trail logs, field notes, essays that blended place and presence. His writing now helps readers reconnect with what’s wild, accessible, and deeply human.
Kevin’s emotional intelligence comes through in how he observes—not just landscapes, but how people move through them. He writes about access, solitude, resilience, and joy with clarity and care. Whether reviewing a tent or reflecting on a storm, he honors the experience behind the adventure.
He sees the outdoors as both a mirror and a sanctuary—always ready to offer perspective.
Outside of the writing trail, Kevin is:
A thermos-carrying, layer-packing, early riser
Known for stopping mid-hike to take notes or name a plant
A gear minimalist and map maximalist
Quiet in crowds, but animated around campfires
A keeper of weather journals, field guides, and backup headlamps
And here’s a small detail that says a lot:
Kevin keeps a rock from every trail he’s completed—not for collection, but for memory. Just one small stone, pocketed with purpose.
When he’s not writing, Kevin is likely out on a trail with his guitar slung over one shoulder and a thermos of coffee in hand. A lover of the quiet life, he finds joy in hiking remote paths, casting a line on peaceful lakes, or grilling dinner over an open fire under the stars. Ice hockey keeps his competitive edge sharp, while astronomy feeds his sense of wonder—he’s always chasing the next meteor shower or stargazing opportunity. Whether it’s camping with friends or strumming folk tunes by a firepit, Kevin’s interests all orbit the same core: a deep appreciation for connection, curiosity, and the great outdoors.Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.
Signature catchphrase?
“Let’s go outside and learn something.”
His north star?
“Walk with intention. Write with presence. Leave no trace—except story.”

On the Gift List
BACKYARD EXPLORER ADVENTURE KIT
“You don’t need a mountain range or a week-long trip to feel the excitement of exploring — sometimes all it takes is a backyard, a park, or a good patch of trees.
That’s why I love this adventure kit. It turns any ordinary day into a mini expedition.
Binoculars, a compass, a magnifying glass… it’s all the gear that sparks curiosity.
Kids start looking closer, noticing things they never saw before — a bird they can finally identify, tracks in the mud, little bugs doing big things.
I love gifts like this because they make the outdoors feel welcoming instead of intimidating.
It encourages kids (and honestly, adults too) to slow down, wander, and see the world with fresh eyes.
A simple, joyful way to discover that nature’s full of surprises waiting just outside the door.”
✍️ Kevin’s Autumn Quote
“The fire’s not just for warmth — it’s for stories, laughter, and the sparks that remind us we’re alive.”
🔥 Playlist: “Autumn Campfire” — Curated by Kevin Todd
Listen to Autumn Campfire by our Outdoors Writer, Kevin Todd, who reminds us:
“Because autumn is best lived where the fire crackles and the stars listen.”
A perfect backdrop for reflection, comfort, and connection.

Tom Petty remains particularly important, fitting beautifully with Kevin’s established Into the Great Wide Open musical identity.

🌲 Full About Kevin
Kevin Todd grew up beside a lake large enough to teach humility.
Lake Superior could be beautiful, calm and inviting.
It could also remind you very quickly that nature wasn’t arranged for your convenience.
Growing up in Duluth gave Kevin an early relationship with cold mornings, forests, rocky shorelines, snow, cabins, campfires and water stretching beyond what felt reasonable for a lake.
He never really escaped it.
He just expanded the map.
Today Kevin lives in Bend, Oregon, where the Cascades and high desert give him an entirely different outdoor playground and a base for his work as Go Cybernaut’s Outdoors Writer.
Kevin loves the ambitious stuff.
Long trails.
Backcountry camps.
Paddling trips.
Mountains.
Remote roads.
The moment when the last artificial light disappears and the night sky suddenly becomes enormous.
But he doesn’t believe those experiences make him more authentically outdoorsy than someone sitting under a tree in a city park.
That’s central to Kevin.
The outdoors doesn’t begin at the trailhead.
It begins when somebody opens the door.
His writing therefore moves comfortably between adventure and invitation.
He can discuss equipment, route planning and wilderness safety without making readers feel they’re being tested for admission to some secret mountain society.
He understands that bodies are different.
Budgets are different.
Experience levels are different.
Comfort zones are different.
A successful outdoor story should make somebody think:
Maybe I could do that.
Kevin travels with a camera, notebook and an optimism about weather forecasts that has repeatedly proven unjustified.
He loves camp cooking, maps, wildlife, road trips and music that seems designed for highways disappearing toward mountains.
He’s happiest when curiosity gives the day its direction.
Sometimes that produces a spectacular viewpoint.
Sometimes it produces a mosquito-infested lake and a sandwich eaten in the rain.
Both can become stories.
Because Kevin’s real subject isn’t wilderness.
It’s what happens to people when they spend a little time outside.
